What will counselling be like?

The first visit

Your first session will be a chance to get to know each other, discuss your goals and questions and review the consent form.  The consent form includes information regarding how strict confidentiality is maintained, how your privacy is protected, my responsibility as a counsellor, and your responsibility as a client.  There are potential benefits of counselling as well as aspects that may be difficult such as making changes, becoming frustrated, committing to working hard, trying new approaches and confronting difficult decisions.  If you decide you would like to continue with counselling we will discuss what it may look like for you in terms of the frequency of your sessions, the cost and an approximation of how many sessions you may expect to come.

Fees:  Individual counselling/Equine Facilitated Wellness Sessions are $130.  Sessions are typically one to one and a half hours long.  A percentage of the clients at Highlands Gate can apply for negotiable rates, in an effort to make counselling accessible to everyone who can benefit from it, please inquire.  My practice is supervised by a clinical psychologist, Dr. Brenda Saxe; therefore services are covered by most extended health insurance plans as well as the Victim Quick Response Program and Blue Cross.

There is an opportunity to participate in a longer more integrated session in which case the fees will be negotiated in advance depending on the length of the session.
